10th Anniversary Edition!!

Hooray! TGIF 2 Minutes has entered its 11th year! It has been an absolute joy to hear from readers over the past 10 years and be part of your Friday morning cup of coffee or weekend reading time. For kicks, below is an excerpt from the very first edition in May 2014:

Good morning and TGIF,

In my efforts to give you Short & Sweet messages that make a POSITIVE difference in your LIFE, I am starting a “TGIF 2 minutes”. It will not be every Friday but when there’s something to say, it will be on Friday when you may have an extra 2 minutes in your day- or weekend- to read it. It will be worth reading! Please let me know your thoughts.

This weekend marks the WARREN BUFFETT Annual Shareholder Meeting (May 3rd in Omaha, Nebraska). Over 30,000 people attend! The weekend has become a sort of “Woodstock for Investors”. Below I give you two (2) glimpses into the meeting. Enjoy & TGIF.

Excerpt from 2014 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Report: (60 second version)

“In aggregate, American business has done wonderfully over time and will continue to do so (though, most assuredly, with unpredictable fits and starts). In the 20th Century, the Dow Jones Industrials index advanced from 66 to 11,497, paying a rising stream of dividends to boot. The 21st Century will witness further gains, almost certain to be substantial.  The goal of the non-professional should not be to pick winners – neither he nor his ‘helpers’ can do that – but should rather be to own a cross section of businesses that in aggregate are bound to do well…”

“…Indeed, who has ever benefited during the past 237 years by betting against America? If you compare our country’s present condition to that existing in 1776, you have to rub your eyes in wonder. And the dynamism embedded in our market economy will continue to work its magic.  America’s best days lie ahead.”

Excerpt from Warren Buffet’s 2014 annual letter to shareholders

Back to 2024. A quick quote from Buffett’s 2024 letter to shareholders:*

  • Though the stock market is massively larger than it was in our early years, today’s active participants are neither more emotionally stable nor better taught than when I was in school. For whatever reasons, markets now exhibit far more casino-like behavior than they did when I was young. The casino now resides in many homes and daily tempts the occupants.
  • Mr. Buffett notably acknowledged the passing at the age of 99 in November 2023 of Charlie Munger who Buffett calls the “Architect” of Berkshire.

Warren Buffett, at age 93½, still has a great deal to contribute to the investing world. His knowledge and experience are legendary.

TGIF 2 Minutes, at age 10, will strive to contribute to your world of saving, investing, growing, and understanding wealth – and living with financial peace of mind.
