In the world of IRA and 401(k) savings, maximum contributions have increased!
Here are the “data points” to get 2026 started on a positive note:
- Maximum IRA contribution in 2026 for both Traditional and Roth IRAs has increased to $7,500 (from $7,000).
For those age 50 and over, the “catch-up” increased to $1,100, for a total of $8,600 in 2026. - Maximum 401k/403b/TSP contributions in 2026 increased to $24,500 (up from $23,500).
For those age 50 and over, the catch-up increased to $8,000, for a total of $32,500 in 2026.
AND — the “super catch-up” for those ages 60-63 is $11,250 (same as 2025) for a total of $35,750.
- Most 401k/403b & TSP contributions can be made on either a pre-tax or Roth 401k basis with no income limits for the Roth 401k — the difference between pre-tax 401k and Roth 401k can matter big-time today — affecting required minimum distributions (RMDs) when they kick in later!
Discuss these new maximums with your tax adviser and financial adviser — with special attention paid to Roth IRA and Roth 401k when available.
