Are you familiar with the TV show “The Big Bang Theory”? The show is in its 11th season and lots of people by now have heard of Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Howard and Penny… but for those who have not heard of the show it is really funny and has been a HUGE success.
The Executive Producer is a young-ish guy named Dave Goetsch. Apparently over the years along with his success Dave has chosen to invest a good deal of his savings (which must be sizable) in the stock and bond markets. He started investing prior to the 2007-2009 financial crisis without an adviser – and in the midst of the major downturn of 2007-2008 he says he fell into despair and that the media led him to question “who really knows where the markets are going?” By the way, the answer is: No one really knows.
Since then, he has found an adviser who educated him about the fact that it is less about the ups and downs of the markets and more about having a PLAN and therefore lessening the worry in your life (this can apply to more than only our financial lives!).
I found this very short 2-minute story super down-to-earth in its simple explanation about why a financial PLAN is so important and why trust in a qualified adviser – especially a CFP® – who is focused on YOU, your family and your life is worth FAR more than an opinion on the markets.

If you choose, you can fast-forward and scroll down to the very end of the short story, after it says, “I haven’t changed because the stock market rebounded. I changed because I learned that there was a different way to think about investing.” That’s the best part.
